“Riverside Academy continues to be one of the best years of my life. I still don’t understand how I never won a Golden Child award 🤣🤚🏼.” – Akosua Ateah Boamah Kwanin

During a recent virtual alumni check-in with the School Business Manager of Riverside Academy, Akosua Ateah Boamah Kwanin, Class of 2018, lit up the conversation with her signature humour, infectious energy, and impressive journey through academics and leadership.

Akosua, who currently studies at the University of Ghana Dental School (Class of 2027), is making waves both in the classroom and beyond. She serves as the Head of Instagram for the UGMSA Publicity Team, managing a critical arm of the medical school’s communications strategy. “I really love publicity work!” she shared with a wide smile. “It lets me blend my creative side with the professionalism dentistry requires.”

Her deep love for dentistry was evident throughout the conversation. “I used to be set on specialising in Maxillofacial Surgery, but now I’m open to exploring other fields,” she said. “Oral Medicine and Pathology used to be my biggest academic challenges, but by God’s grace, I’ve overcome them. Time will tell which area I’ll finally specialise in 🤣

But Akosua’s ambitions don’t end with dentistry. With an entrepreneurial mindset and creative flair, she’s also passionate about braiding. “I really enjoy braiding hair,” she shared during the call. “After dental school, I definitely plan to open a braiding salon—something stylish, artistic, and relaxing for young professionals.” Her eye for detail and artistry in braiding reflects the same dedication she brings to her studies. For Akosua, developing extra skills is part of preparing for the future—not just for a job, but for a well-rounded and fulfilling life.

Before entering the University of Ghana, Akosua completed her secondary education at Wesley Girls’ High School, after achieving the highest BECE raw score in her district while at Riverside Academy. She held leadership roles in both schools, including Compound Prefect at Riverside and Red Cross PRO at Wesley Girls Senior High School, along with her executive position in the Fiankoma ICT Club.

Fondly reminiscing about her Riverside days, Akosua said, “I made most of my best memories there. I was in the Art Club, Choir, Choreography and Cultural Club. And honestly? I still miss the food from our boarding house—Geyhey meals couldn’t compare 🥲.”

Despite the distance and time, her Riverside friendships remain close.

“Most people say you make your best friends in university, but my Riverside friends continue to be the ones closest to me. I love them so much.”

💚 Family Ties and Riverside Pride

Akosua also has a younger brother, Papa Boamah Kwanin, who is an alumnus of Riverside Academy and currently a student at Prempeh College. The Riverside legacy clearly runs deep in the Boamah Kwanin family, with both siblings carrying the spirit of excellence forward.

🌟 From Golden Memories to Golden Strides

Akosua’s story reflects the Riverside Academy spirit—grounded, confident, and thriving. She is a shining example of how strong foundations and supportive school environments can shape lifelong success.

We are proud of you, Akosua. Keep shining, and keep building the future 🦷✨
