On 14th August 2025, over 800 Edify partner schools gathered at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Accra to celebrate 15 years of Edify Ghana’s mission to improve and expand sustainable Christ-centered education globally.
At this milestone Christ-Centered Education Conference, which featured keynote addresses from Mrs. Emelia Boatemah Osei-Derkyi, Deputy Controller & Accountant-General (Finance & Administration), and Professor Samuel Nana Yaw Simpson, Deputy Director (Internal Audit & Risk Management) at the University of Ghana Business School, Riverside Academy, an Edify Ghana Core School, was honoured with the prestigious Luis Sena Award for Overall Best Project for its sustainability drive.
Our Plastic Recycle Project (Green Challenge), part of the Edify Community Transformation Project 2025, was recognised as the top project out of more than 160 entries nationwide. Over a six-month campaign, Riverside students led the collection of over half a tonne of plastic bottles, powered by our giant bottle bin and in partnership with Recycle Me Ghana. The plastics are being repurposed into useful products such as gallons, plastic chairs, and dustbins — proving that environmental stewardship and education can go hand in hand.
The award was proudly received on behalf of the school by Joel Kwaku Abeseabe, School Business Manager and Head of Partnerships. Speaking after receiving the award, Joel noted:
“This recognition is not just for Riverside, but for every student, teacher, and parent who embraced the vision of environmental stewardship. With Edify’s support, we have shown that Christ-centered education can transform not only lives but also communities and our environment.”
This recognition reflects not only Edify’s mission to improve and expand sustainable Christ-centered education, but also demonstrates Riverside Academy’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Responsible Consumption (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), Life Below Water (SDG 14), and Life on Land (SDG 15).
The conference also celebrated Edify’s remarkable impact over 15 years:
670,693 students impacted
2,589 school leaders trained
3,191 teachers trained
Over $1 million in loan capital disbursed to partner schools
For Riverside Academy, this award is a call to continue advancing the shared vision of Flourishing Godly Nations, where education transforms both lives and communities.
