Riverside Academy Recycling Update: Over 23,500 Plastic Bottles Recycled!

Riverside Academy is thrilled to share another major update on our Plastic Bottle Recycling Project, a core initiative of the Edify Community Transformation Project. As of Monday, 17th March 2025, we have successfully recycled an additional 5,031 plastic bottles and 50 kilograms of PET plastic.

Our New Recycling Milestone

With this latest collection, our total recycling tally now stands at:

✅ 23,568 plastic bottles recycled

✅ 235 kilograms of PET plastic processed

What Does 23,500 Bottles Look Like?

To put this achievement into perspective, imagine 23,500 plastic bottles lined up end-to-end. They would stretch for over 4 kilometres—the equivalent of walking from Riverside Academy to the outskirts of Ejisu!

Or picture this: if stacked vertically, these bottles would tower higher than 60-storey skyscrapers, reaching heights taller than the Ridge Towers in Accra! That’s the sheer magnitude of plastic we’ve prevented from polluting our environment.

The Power of Collective Action

This project continues to be a whole-school effort, with students leading the charge in plastic collection and recycling awareness. Teachers have creatively woven environmental education into the curriculum, while parents and local neighbours have shown immense support by contributing bottles.

The enthusiasm surrounding this initiative has been infectious—students are not only collecting bottles but also engaging in discussions on sustainability, waste reduction, and environmental responsibility. It’s inspiring to witness young minds taking active steps towards protecting our planet.

A Strong Partnership with RecycleMe

Our collaboration with RecycleMe remains vital to ensuring all collected plastic is properly processed and repurposed into useful products such as plastic chairs, bins, and gallons. Their expertise helps us track progress and ensure that our recycling efforts create tangible environmental impact.

Next Steps: The Road to 1 Tonne

With over 23,500 bottles recycled so far, we are determined to maintain this momentum. Our next collection phase will involve:
